“What happens when your shipping company messes up and doesn’t deliver; leaving you stranded and empty-handed? How are you going to do that show? Well, in our line of work; we improvise. This is not to say that we do any old crap to fill in, or get into some kind of uncontrolled panic. From a tag which would take just five seconds, to a full colour piece which could take five hours, the goal has always been to show the best of our abilities.

We would go to train yards without sketches or any preconceptions, and we´ll let the setting and the pressure of the illegality, as well as the near-darkness, inspire and guide us in our noble endeavour. Galleriet presenterar ytterligare ett par stora namn från graffittivärlden som sedan nittiotalet främst setts på gallerier och konsthallar runt om i världen. New York-baserade Stash och Paris-baserade Mode2 är vänner sedan länge och har under lång tid pratat om att göra någonting gemensamt och denna utställning är resultatet. Ursprungsidén att frakta över tidigare verk ratades i sista minuten och istället gör konstnärerna helt nya verk tillverkade på plats i Stockholm.

Gallery Jonas Kleerup presents Brendan Austin’s second solo exhibition – Paper Mountains.

In the last exhibition Debris Of Events, Brendan Austin (b.1977) investigated the spaces that exist on the periphery, both in nature as well as in our human limitations towards nature. Portraited is a series of dark, muted and graphical photographs of environments that explore our notion of the frontier. In this exhibitition he continues to evaluate the human relation to nature, but this time he rigorously construct his own fictive landscapes. What looks like a range of mountains at first glance, is by further examination studiously contructed ones, developed by close-ups of mountains in different parts of the world, that have been physically transformed in the studio and through the camera lens, into new forms of mountains. With this exhibition Brendan Austin challenges our gaze and questions both the camera and the authenticity of the image as well as our tendency to create our own realities.

I sin förra utställning Debris Of Events utforskade Brendan Austin (f. 1977) tomheten och gränserna som existerar i vår värld, både naturens fysiska gränser samt mänsklighetens begränsning inför samma natur. Allt med ett dovt, grafiskt fotografi med mörka undertoner. I denna utställning fortsätter han att granska människans relation till naturen, fast denna gång konstruerar han noggrant egna, fiktiva landskap. Det som vid första anblicken ser ut som bergskedjor och bergsformationer är vid en närmare granskning minutiöst konstruerade berg utvecklade av närbilder av berg från olika delar av världen som sedan via studion fått en fysisk förvandling för att via kamerans lins åter ta formen av just bergsformationer. Brendan Austin ifrågasätter med utställning just vår blick och tar upp frågor om både kamerans och bildens äkthet samt människans benägenhet att skapa egna verkligheter.

Self taught artist Moley Talhoui (b. 1985) has roots that dates back 2800 years in norhtern Morocco, although he was raised in small swedish town Västerås within a large family with a single mother. From an early age his easiest form of communication was through drawing. He has no education in art whatsoever, everything he knows he has taught himself, both on the streets and in his studio.

His style touches a naive, early modernist language with a dark, contemporary gaze. Outsider art. The characters in his pictures reflects the subconsciousness, animalized figures with thick, painterly stubborness mixes with frail pencil drawings in abstract and geometric patterns. Creatures, often horses mixes with the human figures and a few words to create a suggestive existance.

Den autodidakta konstnären Moley Talhaoui (f. 1985) har rötter som går 2800 år tillbaka i norra Marocko, själv är han uppvuxen i Stockholm och Västerås i en stor familj med en ensamstående, ung mor. Från tidig ålder hade han problem att kommunicera och fastnade med pennan och pappret som sin närmaste vän och länk ut mot världen. Han har aldrig studerat varken konsthistoria eller på någon konsthögskola utan har skapat sin egen utbildning, både på gatan och i sin ateljé.

Hans teknik snuddar vid ett naivistiskt, förmodernistiskt formspråk fast med en samtida, granskande blick med mörka undertoner. Karaktärerna i hans bilder speglar undermedvetna känslor, djurliknande figurer med tunga, måleriska drag blandas med spröda bllyertsteckningar i abstrakta och geometriska kompositioner. Djur, oftast hästar, blandas med människolika kreationer och enstaka textrader i en en suggestiv bildvärld.
